I saw a type of tornado the other day, off the freeway heading home. It happened to be at my exit, and I was watching it wondering if I could get to the exit first before it touched down. It was still forming, and the spout didn't appear to be all the way to the ground yet. But as I watched, the odd cloud never connected to the upper clouds, it was below them. And the spout that was clearly seen 'spinning', never connected to the ground. It hung there in the sky and really didn't 'travel'; all the way until I exited and was past it. I've never seen that. Normal Tornado's 'travel' it is part of the 'engine' that drives them. Anyway, Today, I was watching the weather.com channel & vids. And I came across this past article, from April 13th, about a Tornado Hitting the Town of Lovelady Texas without any weather radar warning issued. And they name this type of tornado, (And I've never heard of such a thing before)....They are calling these "Land Spout Tornados", and more importantly...they dont show up on the radar because they fly too low, there are gaps in the radar system. Somehow related to "Dust Devils" So I watched the video and then read the article. (It wont allow me to insert the vid.) www.weather.com/tv/tvshows/americas-morning-headquarters/east-texas-lovelady-tornado-radar-hole-20140416And one of the most interesting details not in that vid, is that the mobile homes hit, every one was not home for one reason or another. And the author of the article must have recognized how 'fortunate' that was, because he highlighted the words in his article. I thought it was a very cool example of clearly 'getting the message'. Advanced warning by the subconscious knock. "Sometime between 4:30 and 5 o’clock, a tornado spun up on the west side of town, within spitting distance of the town’s traffic light. In an instant, at least two large trees were pulled from the ground, smashing into the dining room of Toni Cowger’s mobile home. She had just left the dining table to peek outside at the wind-whipped commotion – and escaped with a cut leg.
At the same time, Esther Ramirez’s mobile home was shoved off its foundation and mangled by the twister. Ramirez, who is battling cancer, had left 45 minutes earlier to spend the evening with her son. She was unhurt.
Within two minutes, the tornado zipped three-quarters of a mile north to Lovelady High School, causing some cosmetic damage, and then disappeared."Anyway, with the weird weather, in Texas particularly, it is good to update your knowledge of Tornados.
